Getting notifications with Regram
Why a sideloaded Regram may not show Instagram notifications, how to get them, and the fix when they only say “You have a new notification”.
Updated
This page is for sideloaded Regram on an iPhone that isn't jailbroken. Jailbroken and TrollStore installs get notifications normally.
A sideloaded Regram only gets notifications when it's signed with a certificate that includes push notifications — a limit of Apple's signing rules, not of Regram. The full explanation is here.
Notifications only say “You have a new notification”
If notifications arrive but only show “You have a new notification” instead of the actual message, the cause is most likely Regram's Fix Emojis & Popups option.
- Open Regram Settings.
- Turn Fix Emojis & Popups off.
- Restart Instagram.
What does Fix Emojis & Popups do — and can I keep it?
On a sideloaded Instagram, two things don't stick after you restart the app: "new feature" popups come back every time, and custom reaction emojis in DMs reset to the default. Fix Emojis & Popups makes both save properly — but for some people it breaks notifications.
You can get both. Do this once:
- Turn Fix Emojis & Popups on.
- Open Instagram, dismiss the new-feature popups, and set your DM reaction emojis.
- Restart Instagram.
- Turn Fix Emojis & Popups off again.
Your popups stay dismissed, your emojis stay saved, and notifications keep working. Only repeat it if new popups appear or you want different emojis.
Still seeing the generic text with the option off? Make sure you're on the regular Regram build, not the duplicate — see below.
Notifications inside Regram itself
You need three things together:
- the original Regram build — the plain Regram, not Regram (Duplicate), which never receives notifications;
- signed with a distribution certificate that includes the push notifications entitlement;
- and an App Groups entitlement that's set up correctly.
$99 a year from Apple, and nobody else can revoke it. The create a distribution certificate guide sets up the certificate, push notifications and the app group, step by step. Then sign the Regram build with it.
Some providers sell certificates you can use with a tool like GBox or ESign. Check before you buy that it includes push notifications and supports App Groups — Regram needs both.
Careful
Third-party providers, unaffiliated with us. A revoked certificate takes the app down until they issue a new one.

With a free Apple ID: keep Instagram installed
A free signature (AltStore) can't carry push notifications, so let the App Store Instagram deliver them:
- Install the official Instagram app from the App Store and sign in.
- Install Regram (Duplicate) next to it — it has a different , so both can live side by side. The sideload guide does exactly this.
- Use Regram day to day, and let Instagram deliver your notifications.
The catch: tapping a notification opens Instagram, not Regram. A Shortcuts automation that opens Regram when Instagram launches smooths that over.
Still nothing?
- Check notifications are allowed for the app in Settings → Notifications.
- Confirm the certificate you used includes push notifications — a free Apple ID never does.
- Work through sideloading troubleshooting.
